Wakeboarding with Brian
by brian @ 00:15:15 - [perma-link]

Connie's nephew Brian was here for a couple of days, so we took him
wakeboarding. He'd never done it before, but he picked it up really
quick, and even tried a jump his first time up. Connie had a couple
of nice long rides on her magic board ;), and I flipped the boots
around and tried goofy foot (like I do on snowboards and skateboards,
so, well, duh...) with much better results.

We also brought my "real" video camera (a 6 or 7 year old Sony PC1
miniDV) which takes really, really nice video compared to the super-
small Samsung X105 (though the Samsung is still pretty cool). It has
to come out with us all the time now. And it needs to be running
more. I like how Brian filmed pretty much everything (thanks, man!).

Guess who skateboards!
by brian @ 02:01:53 - [perma-link]

Josh and I went for a brief skateboarding jaunt that was cut short
because of too much traffic. Dixon (Josh's 12-week-old dog) took
interest when Josh was riding around after we got back.

This video is a little over 2 minutes taken from maybe 15 minutes of
real-time. He started off chasing the board, then put 1 foot on,
then pushing it with 2 or 3 on, and even jumped fully on a couple of
times.

This is the first time Dixon has ever been on a skateboard. The only
"teaching" we did was giving the skateboard a push when he started
trying to bite at the wheels. He learned to ride all by himself. I
am completely amazed. A few more days trying and I bet he'll get
it! Then he'll have to get himself down to LA to race that bulldog
on the boardwalk.

Wakeboarding and Wakeskating
by brian @ 17:12:06 - [perma-link]

Yesterday we tried out the new ballast bags. The boat makes a much
bigger wake with and extra 700 lbs in the front. Josh and I tried
wakeskating. I got up once or twice, but did little more than that.
Josh managed to make it look easy. Connie took her first ride on her
new wakeboard (with bindings that actually fit her!) and she did
awesome. See for yourself!

Geeked out Saturday night
by brian @ 01:25:17 - [perma-link]

About 11:30 tonight I realized that we need a 12-volt lighter socket on
the boat tomorrow in order to inflate stuff, pump water into the ballast
bags, and keep the GPS alive.

So I hooked this up from the parts we picked up today. If this will fit
in the boat, that will be awesome. If not, at least we can hook it up
temporarily for what we need tomorrow.

You're looking at a hero!
by brian @ 02:27:15 - [perma-link]

This 18 year old found an abandoned school bus in New Orleans,
rounded up 100 or so people, and 2005/9/1/4255/Taking-refuge-in-the-Astrodome>drove them 7 hours to
Houston.
Technically he "stole" the bus, but the reality is
that in a disasterous situation, he found a way to get him and many,
many others to safety. Desperate times call for desperate measures.
What kind of heartless person could consider that a crime?

CVS "One-time-use" Camcorder
by brian @ 23:57:44 - [perma-link]

A while back I read about the CVS One-time-use Camcorder. Its like
the one-time cameras, but video. So you buy the thing for $30,
record 20 minutes or so of video, and then take it back to CVS and
pay them another $13 (I think) for "processing", and they give you a
DVD with your 20 minutes of video.

Its kind of neat, in that "I can be a total moron and still make a
DVD for only $43" sort of way. You don't get the camera back.
That's another $30 for another camera, even though the only
disposable parts are the AA batteries inside.

But of course, it was hacked. The "proprietary port" under the
sticker on top is really just USB without a nice connector (and a
bunch of extra pads for "future expansion" or some crap). Since we
don't have CVS Pharmacies in Portland, I asked my mom to send me one
(and she did).

This movie is a couple of the clips I took with the camera so I'd
have something to download. Tomorrow (maybe :) I want to put it on
my T-Maxx. Eventually it will end up on an RC plane.

Here's the how_to_cvs_vide_1.html>HOWTO I followed, in case you want to do
it, too.

New Amp in the Boat
by brian @ 01:11:09 - [perma-link]

Just for extra redundancy, let me write it again here:

We put a new amp in the boat today. It rocks. We'll be able to
listen to music while wakeboarding, which will be sooooo rad.

I need to go out later this week and finish up the install (stuff's
just kind of sitting there under the dash right now), and fix up a
couple more thing. The rest of the summer is gonna rock!

Wakeboarding
by brian @ 11:56:08 - [perma-link]

I finally figured out how to make a video that works on Windows, so I
can post more. I have some more raw footage saved up, that I haven't
edited yet, so more movies in the near future. Anyway...

We went wakeboarding on Saturday, and I remembered to bring my
camera. This movie is the highlights, at least up until the battery
died.

Yeeeeee-haw!!!

The new gears went in today, with not too much trouble. Now my Charger
acts like a muscle car.

Out with the old
by brian @ 13:57:40 - [perma-link]

Josh's "neighbor" at work was out today, so he had an open stall. I'm
using it to swap out the rear gears today instead of tomorrow morning.

The old stuff is out. Time to put in the new parts.
