My Powerbook
by brian @ 00:45:08 - [perma-link]Someone wanted to see my laptop tonight. Here it is in all its glory.
Its a 666 (or was it 667?) Mhz G4 titanium 1G memory, blah blah blah.
The screen is 1152x768 widescreen. I got it to replace my Sony Vaio
after it fell too many times and stopped working. So I got the
available one, and didn't hold out for the next rev which got the
brighter screen with the higher resolution. Bummer.
So if you recall, Daisy broke my powerbook a week or so after we got
her. Her leash tangled with the power cord and she pulled it off the
sofa. Both hinges that hold the screen snapped and the screen fell
flat. But none of the electronics broke! So I grabbed some duct tape
and made a new hinge, and made two supports to hold the screen upright
when open. After some time (uh.. however long its been until last
night) the duct tape started losing grip, or stretching or something,
and the screen fell flat again. So now it has a kevlar thread holding
it up. The upper end is tied around one of the case screws and the
bottom one is wrapped around a short piece of wire and tucks in behind
the 802.11 card.*
Hopefully this new, more advanced hinge setup will be able to carry me
over to the next revision of either they 15" or 17" powerbook. Then
I'll cut the thread, fold the screen back on the bottom of the case and
mount it in a picture frame running a photo album screen saver.
(* yes, i know powerbooks come with Airport card built in, but the
antenna range is horrible, so I use an external. And I can actually go
pretty far with it.) |
