My Powerbook
by brian @ 00:45:08 - [perma-link]

Someone wanted to see my laptop tonight. Here it is in all its glory.

Its a 666 (or was it 667?) Mhz G4 titanium 1G memory, blah blah blah.
The screen is 1152x768 widescreen. I got it to replace my Sony Vaio
after it fell too many times and stopped working. So I got the
available one, and didn't hold out for the next rev which got the
brighter screen with the higher resolution. Bummer.

So if you recall, Daisy broke my powerbook a week or so after we got
her. Her leash tangled with the power cord and she pulled it off the
sofa. Both hinges that hold the screen snapped and the screen fell
flat. But none of the electronics broke! So I grabbed some duct tape
and made a new hinge, and made two supports to hold the screen upright
when open. After some time (uh.. however long its been until last
night) the duct tape started losing grip, or stretching or something,
and the screen fell flat again. So now it has a kevlar thread holding
it up. The upper end is tied around one of the case screws and the
bottom one is wrapped around a short piece of wire and tucks in behind
the 802.11 card.*

Hopefully this new, more advanced hinge setup will be able to carry me
over to the next revision of either they 15" or 17" powerbook. Then
I'll cut the thread, fold the screen back on the bottom of the case and
mount it in a picture frame running a photo album screen saver.

(* yes, i know powerbooks come with Airport card built in, but the
antenna range is horrible, so I use an external. And I can actually go
pretty far with it.)

Don't get too close!

ZLM-463 didn't want to get within 20 feet of the car in front of it, so
we can't quite reach the drive thru order.

I don't know what the deal is, but people in oregon like leaving a huge
gap when they stop at a light. I went around someone the other day, and
still another car could have fit behind me in front of them.

Hair products for Texans?

Just in case u can't get your hair big enough by just teasing it?

Fred Meyer
by brian @ 15:46:55 - [perma-link]

Connie and I are grocery shopping at Fred Meyer. I wandered into
electronics, brifly, and saw this jurrassic park video game thing. You
carry a barcode reader therough the store and scan items to "charge up"
you dinosaurs. Not sure how that works, but I guess it keeps your kidss
busy while you shop?

Also saw a strange new sprite, some odd pinatas, and a really happy
butcher sign.

Shhhh! Don't tell my mom!
by brian @ 15:28:13 - [perma-link]

Nikki taught me to ride her motorcycle today. I rode it around the
block a couple of times, at speeds up to 30mph :)

It was a lot easier than i was expecting. Just like riding a bike!
(only without all that annoying pedaling)

Hot enough for ya?

I took this around 6:10pm today in Tigard. Yeah, 100 degrees.

Crazy stuff at Fry's
by brian @ 15:35:20 - [perma-link]

I'm shopping for a memory stick and batteries for my camera. Here's some
of the weird stuff I saw. A big wheel for big people, a pc keyboard
with a music keyboard (and dorky looking kids using it on the box), ugly
motherboards, some funky computer speakers (I need another computer to
plug into so I can get them :), and a big honkin' computer-controlled
telescope on clearance for $2k. Wow.

New camera!
by brian @ 22:50:03 - [perma-link]

Connie got me a new camera yesterday. Its a Sony Cybershot U20. Its tiny,
so I can carry it everywhere. And it takes pretty good pictures, even really close up!
And now I'm modifying this site to handle larger pictures.

Construction underway
by brian @ 23:22:09 - [perma-link]

One side of the garage is covered. The roofers come Friday! Demo on
the other side has begun. The room upstairs is big. Bigger than we
expected, I think.

Best Burritos in Town, and growing!
by brian @ 18:53:29 - [perma-link]

San Felipe has rearranged, and added wine and beer to the menu (or at
least a massive keg setup). And the line to order is longer. I guess
they're doing pretty well!
