DVD Regional Coding
by brian @ 11:31:36 - [perma-link]Its one of those things I've always thought was just really, really, REALLY stupid, but having never bought a DVD that wasn't region-1, I didn't see the big deal. Until now. Battle Royale is the movie from which Quentin Tarantino lifted Go-go. Its some sort of teen battle-to-the-death-on-an-island flick. Connie bought it online after watching Kill Bill, since we couldn't rent it or find it anywhere else. We've had it for a while, and finally decided to watch it this morning. But see that (oops, blurry) 3 in the box next to the "dts" logo? That means I'm not supposed to watch it here. And by here, I mean in this country, "land of the free, home of the brave." It has something to do with "protecting" the different markets around the world in order to boost margins for Malaysian DVD Pirates ("yarrrrr!") or something like that. Like it said, it's kind of stupid, and doesn't really make sense to anyone who wouldn't sue a 12-year-old. |
