A New Look for the Old "Rare" Calipers
by brian @ 21:16:26 - [perma-link]

OK. Except for the shocks, and the 2 pieces I already installed, there
is no nuthin in the front having anything to do with the front wheels.
The dash looks huge without the column-mounted tach in the way. Plenty
of room for a car computer :).

Tonight I painted the brake calipers with brake caliper paint (go
figure!), and the guards (or whatever) with some Duplicolor aluminum
paint. Its not even remotely close to the "correct" stock color, so if
I ever accidentally park in the middle of a car show I'll lose points
on that.

Sneaking a pic
by brian @ 12:55:58 - [perma-link]

We're at Good Dog Bad Dog getting hot dogs for lunch. This couple in the
corner has some sort of Sony laptop with a built-in camera. They're
taking videos of unsuspecting people eating hotdogs.

So I snuck a picture of them.

Portland Rose Test Garden
by brian @ 12:56:44 - [perma-link]

We went to the rose garden with connie's parents today. Its pretty cool,
but its really hot out, so we didn't last long.

Yeah, its hot here

Swim lessons
by brian @ 10:08:47 - [perma-link]

Nikolas is taking swim lessons. Its raining today, so he's the only one
of his group here (I guess the other kids didn't want to get wet?).

Charger update
by brian @ 21:28:54 - [perma-link]

I hosed down the K-member and cleaned up the rest of the front end to
prepare for reinstallation. Josh showed up and we painted everything
black (its amazing how much nicer the car looks after just a little
cleaning and paint). And the floor looks nice again after mopping.

I tried test fitting the lower control arm, but the shaft seemed to be
a bigger diameter than the hole in the bushings... So that's where the
inner shell of the one old bearing that was totally shot. The rubber
had deteriorated so badly that it just fell out, leaving the inner
shell securely fixed to the shaft, and the outer shell securly lodged
in the control arm. The other day Josh "finessed" the outer shells out
of the control arms with an air chisel. Tonight I removed the inner
shells with a torch, vise grips, a hammer, and a few wrenches.

Tomorrow Connie's parents come to visit, so the project is on hold for
a few days.

Front suspension ready to go back in...
by brian @ 22:28:18 - [perma-link]

Tonight I started putting the front end of my Charger back together.
The passenger side parts are displayed with the Puma Upper Control Arm
Support, in a rough exploded view of how they fit in the car. Oscar
gave them a final OK.

These all go up in the wheel well, so I cleaned it up a little before
putting the upper bumper and control arm into place...with a rubber
hammer, but it wasn't too bad. I checked out where the rest of the
stuff mounts, and I have some more cleaning to do tomorrow before I
continue reinstalling. I only did a light cleaning, since it started
getting down to bare metal. Eventually I'll have the body blasted or
dipped to remove everything, so I'd rather leave the inside a little
dirty than expose bare metal to rust. What rust I did find, i wire
brushed and sprayed with white primer.

I also might have found a source for brake pads (I have the "rare"
Bendix 4-piston disc brakes up front. They truly are rare, as are
replacement parts), so I'll hopefully buy a couple of sets and be set
for life.

Front end teardown
by brian @ 01:13:11 - [perma-link]

Actually, this is what we did yesterday, the only thing left in the
wheel-well now is the shock absorber (pictures later).

The front sway bar, wheels, rotors, and today the torsion bars, control
arms, and pretty much everything else you see came off. Air tools
makes it incredibly easy. Having access to a mechanic with access to
lots of tools makes it even easier.

It should be back together by the end of the week, and much improved.

Connie's Mini
by brian @ 15:37:08 - [perma-link]

More pics later for sure, but we, I mean she, just got it today, like an
hour and a half ago. Its really cool.

I need to make room in the garage now.
