Ride height mostly fixed
by brian @ 21:20:40 - [perma-link]The alignment is still totally off, but we raised it up (not quite enough on the drivers side) and took it for a spin. It drives really nicely and hooks turns really good, instead of that old boaty feel. And the wheels hook up a little better, but the highway gears still make it a slug. We'll see just how fast a slug as soon as I get it aligned. |

DVD Regional Coding
by brian @ 11:31:36 - [perma-link]Its one of those things I've always thought was just really, really, REALLY stupid, but having never bought a DVD that wasn't region-1, I didn't see the big deal. Until now. Battle Royale is the movie from which Quentin Tarantino lifted Go-go. Its some sort of teen battle-to-the-death-on-an-island flick. Connie bought it online after watching Kill Bill, since we couldn't rent it or find it anywhere else. We've had it for a while, and finally decided to watch it this morning. But see that (oops, blurry) 3 in the box next to the "dts" logo? That means I'm not supposed to watch it here. And by here, I mean in this country, "land of the free, home of the brave." It has something to do with "protecting" the different markets around the world in order to boost margins for Malaysian DVD Pirates ("yarrrrr!") or something like that. Like it said, it's kind of stupid, and doesn't really make sense to anyone who wouldn't sue a 12-year-old. |

Lil Jon meets DVD Jon
by brian @ 22:59:54 - [perma-link]I was bored waiting for the inevitable to finish. My apologies to Dave Chappelle. dvd jon: Is that a Battle Royale DVD?lil jon: YEEEEEEAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!! dvd jon: That's the Chinese flick with Go-go from Kill Bill? lil jon: YEEEEEEAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!! dj: You can't watch that here. lj: What?! dj: You can't watch it. lj: What?!? dj: It's "region 3"? lj: What?! dj: It won't work in your player. lj: What? dj: Give it to me. I'll fix it. lj: OKAAAAAAYYYYYY!!!!! dj: see the movie industry wants to control where and how you watch the movies that you've already bought. lj: YEEEEEAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!! dj: but since their system is totally inept, its trivial to work around in case your computer or DVD player isn't Officially Sanctioned By The Motion Picture ASSociation lj: Hmmm.. So you're saying you can analyze the encrypted content, extract the encryption key, and recode it so I can watch the movie, which I purchased with my hard-earned cash, in the comfort of my own home instead of having to travel to China in order to watch it? dj: YEEEEAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!! lj: OKAAAAAAAAAAAYYYY!!!

Mountain Dew Pitch Black
by brian @ 00:34:34 - [perma-link]Mt Dew has another new flavor. This one is a "Limited Edition", whatever that means in the soda context. Its pretty good. It tastes like grape mountain dew, in the same sort of vague way that code red is cherry mountain dew. Its way better than the nasty bluish lime stuff they're testing at taco bell. |

Weird.
by brian @ 14:50:41 - [perma-link]I poured some Mt Dew Pitch Black over ice. The liquid is purple, but the suds (or head or whatever) turns blue. |

Is it as fast as the fenders are wide?
by brian @ 21:08:52 - [perma-link]That's what Josh asked. "Man, it was a mistake putting those fenders on" was all he said. Hasta la vista, Batman. |

None shall pass
by brian @ 18:26:15 - [perma-link]A pretty good sized branch fell (well, mostly fell) from the tree at the back corner of our yard. Connie had just let the dogs out, and she heard a big cracking sound. Now the alley is blocked. I'd go try to pull on it (with a long rope and the Defender, not by hand and not close enough to get crushed), but its kind of precariously close to the power lines. Connie is on hold with Portland General Electric to get their tree huggers out here to fix it. |

Cruise-in @ Pizza Baron
by brian @ 20:16:24 - [perma-link]I meant to head to a Chrysler R/T Club meeting, but turns out there was a cruise-in tonight instead. Some pretty nice restorations, no Chargers (I can fix that soon!), but there was a killer Roadrunner, a hemi cuda, and lots more. |
