Another Video
by brian @ 01:07:44 - [perma-link]

We went over to Josh & Nikki's today. Go figure.

The weather was nice, so Josh and I tried out the RC airplane
Connie's parents sent me a while back. I'd only tried it a couple of
times before, but there wasn't a big enough space by my house to fly
it. It flies great over in the giant field by the school.
Unfortunately it was too far away in some of the shots, and the mpeg
compression squished it right out of view.

While the plane was charging, I tried using the camera riding the
skateboard. I still need more practice aiming (or is it framing?)
while trying to navigate on wheels.

And of course, a few shots of the dogs. They had a blast chasing the
plane around the field.

I put this one together really quickly. There wasn't really much to
work with. I thought going back and forth between the rough skating
sound and the quiet of the plane flying sounded cool, but I don't
think I pulled it off in any artistic way ;).

I am SOOOO high right now!
by brian @ 15:31:26 - [perma-link]

Josh and I are working on the mini some more. We swapped out the cat for
a pipe. I'm in the car up on the lift while he fixes an exhaust leak.

Automounting samba shares rocks
by brian @ 00:56:56 - [perma-link]

I just set up autofs on 2 of my linux xboxes. Now I can set up the
others even easier, since all the mount points run dynamically as
needed, instead of having to edit fstab on all machines when I change
something. This means I can move it all off my desktop computer, and
free up a bunch of space.

Now everything for the in-house media distribution is in the href=http://freevo.sourceforge.net/>Freevo configuration files. It
should also be slightly more tolerant of the other xboxes and computers
being off or rebooted.

Getting the car smogged
by brian @ 15:03:18 - [perma-link]

We went to the DEQ to get the car smogged and registered. It doesn't
make terribly exciting video, but it does give me more editing
practice (and judging by this one, I still need lots :). And it was
funny watching the DEQ worker fumbling around trying to plug into the
car.

DogVBlog
by brian @ 02:51:45 - [perma-link]

I got a new digital video camera (Samsung SC-X105L) that includes a
"helmet cam" module for filming "extreme" stuff. I attached it to
Daisy's backpack harness (she looks thrilled, doesn't she?) and we
went for a walk around the block to see how it works.

Daisy needs a Steadicam.

Neat Tiger Trick
by brian @ 03:55:10 - [perma-link]

I think bryan has been hoping for this forever. Tiger lets you
rotate your screen image in 90 degree increments. My flat screen is
mounted on a movable arm, so I turned it sideways to try it out. Its
cool having a really, really, REALLY tall browser.

Coachella 2005
by brian @ 23:00:34 - [perma-link]

We got back from Coachella tonight. We're so glad to be home!
Anyway...

On Sunday we left in time to sell Connie's ticket (I was pretty much
over it and was planning to sell mine, too, but somehow Chris convinced
me I should go. I still don't remember how), and get to the show right
as Gang of Four (one of bryan's suggestions) was stepping on stage.
Someone in the crowd had, apparently, taken "party like a rockstar" (if
I had brought a better camera, you could read that under the butt on
the front of his trucker hat) a little too seriously and/or early, so
we had a nice unobstructed view. In their final song, the lead singer
was setting the beat by beating a microwave oven with a baseball bat.
Good show.

After that there were these old guys called, like, "New World Order" or
something. ;) I remember one of their songs from high school, so after
I heard it I went to get food with Derek. The cajun turkey hot link
was excellent. We found all of these painted garbage cans on the way
back over, but they're more of an exhibit than a facility. And at the
end of the night, the port-o-potties were pretty damned gross. At
least they had helpful warnings.

Chris and I, the hard-core music fans that we are, left after
recognizing a few Nine Inch Nails songs. Apparently the Prodigy was
off the hook, but we beat traffic so I figure it all evens out.

Oh yeah. Now I can say I've seen Nine Inch Nails live.

Nity-niite, D!
by brian @ 03:05:17 - [perma-link]

Poor wittle sweepy guy!

He is a seriously sound sleeper. There's like 10 of us in here talking,
and music playing. And he even has a bed in the back room.
