	Lots of Progress on the VW Motor by brian @ 23:30:21 - [perma-link] Josh and I spent most of today putting pretty much everything back on the motor. We found one broken cooling pipe, a plastic one which VW later replaced with metal, due to the plastic ones failing. I'll go pick up one of those and a couple more bits and pieces, then it's all set to go back in the body later this week.

	Vanagon Engine Assembly by brian @ 19:45:29 - [perma-link] Josh and I started reassembling the motor today. It went really well. We got the rods, cylinders and pistons back in and both heads attached. I have a time lapse video of it I'll post later. Tomorrow we'll do some more, then get it back in the box next weekend, perhaps.

	Wall-mounted Shop Vac by brian @ 00:25:48 - [perma-link] Thrilling, I know! I got a good shop vaccuum (Rigid brand, not "Shop-Vac") It mounts on the wall, which is nice, and is portable, so I can carry it elsewhere when needed. The 14 foot hose is long enough to vaccuum the car with the vac still on the wall. Sweet.

	Free fixes are the best by brian @ 19:29:14 - [perma-link] Josh and I were all set to replace the shifter in my Vanagon. We pulled it apart, and it looked like it had exploded. After comparing the pieces to the one in Josh's, we realized it had just been installed wrong by someone before us. We put the old parts in the right way, and its all good. I can return the new set tomorrow, making this even less than free.

	Funniest thing I've read today... by brian @ 13:42:11 - [perma-link] I saw this on a video site. The link to it claimed a motorcycle going 300 mph, which would have been pretty remarkable so I had to check it out. Unfortunately it was posted by an idiot who didn't realize that the speedometer is in km/h. Its really "only" doing about 180mph, which is still really fast, but I've seen plenty of 180mph motorcycle videos. The really good stuff is in the comments, from which I snagged this screen-grab of metric confusion. The first thread (pictured) is a riot. A little further on someone's brain misfired on the "300" and alludes that the bike would be exceeding the speed of light (light travels at just under 300 MILLION meters-per-second, or about 671 million mph, several orders of magnitude and a bag of chips more than 300mph). And people wonder why we haven't switched over to the metric system...
