Heavy Load

The piano tuner must have a bunch of pianos packed in there somehow. Its hanging really low!

Free fixes are the best
by brian @ 19:29:14 - [perma-link]

Josh and I were all set to replace the shifter in my Vanagon. We pulled it apart, and it looked like it had exploded. After comparing the pieces to the one in Josh's, we realized it had just been installed wrong by someone before us. We put the old parts in the right way, and its all good.

I can return the new set tomorrow, making this even less than free.

Funniest thing I've read today...
by brian @ 13:42:11 - [perma-link]

I saw this on a video site. The link to it claimed a motorcycle going 300 mph,
which would have been pretty remarkable so I had to check it
out. Unfortunately it was posted by an idiot who didn't realize that
the speedometer is in km/h. Its really "only" doing about 180mph,
which is still really fast, but I've seen plenty of 180mph motorcycle
videos.

The really good stuff is in the comments, from which I snagged this
screen-grab of metric confusion. The first thread (pictured) is a
riot. A little further on someone's brain misfired on the "300" and
alludes that the bike would be exceeding the speed of light (light
travels at just under 300 MILLION meters-per-second, or about
671 million mph, several orders of magnitude and a bag of chips more
than 300mph).

And people wonder why we haven't switched over to the metric system...

Painting Vanagon Parts
by brian @ 19:51:47 - [perma-link]

Josh and I cleaned up some more VW parts and gave the exhaust and
main engine mount some new paint. The exhaust looks ridiculously
better than when it was dirty, rusty metal. The crossbar looks a lot
nicer, definitely nice enough to hang under a 20 year old van.

Parts should arrive early next week!

My new puppy!
by brian @ 20:20:05 - [perma-link]

Connie and I drove up to Prosser, WA (heard of it?) to check out some
Cattle Dog puppies. This mostly black dude is the one I'm getting.
The bigger white dog is the mother, Cookie. They showed us all 3
boys, but I knew I wanted the black one. All of the puppies were
friendly and social, and Cookie just kept licking me.

I get to go pick him up in a couple of weeks. I can't wait!

Got a Vanagon!
by brian @ 19:09:07 - [perma-link]

Nikki and Josh found a great "2 for 1" deal on a couple of VW Vanagons, and I offered to split it with them, taking the one that had been a work truck, rather than the nice interior. Not bad for $250!

Josh thinks we'll get them both going without too many new parts. I'll use it to tow my Mutant Vehicle to Burning Man and for camping while I'm there.

More Vanagon photos

This is the interior of their van, and the exterior of both. The interior of mine is similar, but without the jumpseats, curtains, table, and a few odds and ends. Oh and mine is more "moldy".

We pulled all the accessories off the motor and drained the coolant. Its ready to be pulled, probably this weekend.

Breakfast
by brian @ 14:17:35 - [perma-link]

Connie and I went out with Josh and Nikki and Nikki last night. We slept late, missed the dog play date, and now we're having breakfast.
