Why isn't virtual reality more popular
by brian @ 14:19:44 - [perma-link]

Seriously. Check this dude out.

He's standing in a movie theater lobby wearing some sort of space
helmet, looking around like there's stuff around him. Entertaining for
him? Who cares? Its hysterical to watch!

Server room
by brian @ 13:13:48 - [perma-link]

This is the current server room where my email is hosted. Yes that's a
sink. A bathroom sink.

And yes, Sherlock, it is a bathroom.

We're moving it to a colo today. Then I need to move my web servers onto
the other box in the bathroom, in preparation for moving.

Colocated
by brian @ 14:59:01 - [perma-link]

The server is up and running and happy. And in a big (tho fairly empty)
data center. I feel so special.

Shopping on 23rd
by brian @ 10:52:35 - [perma-link]

We woke up early (forgot about daylight savings) so we had an extra hour
to kill. We went up to the hip shopping area on 23rd.

But it's sunday and not much is open yet. Luckily Connie was able to
find a jewelry shop, and picked up some funky concrete earrings. And a
necklace. And a ring.

And now we're off to the airport.

All full-serve
by brian @ 11:33:29 - [perma-link]

We stopped to get gas on the way to PDX. I forget that every pump is
full serve here. That's going to take some getting used to. I mean, am I
suppsed to tip?

Is this on?
by brian @ 12:25:26 - [perma-link]

So I'm at the airport. I have three bars of signal on my sidekick. But I
can't surf the web.

What gives? The "G7" looks just fine, but www requests just time out. So
I have to go get an old-fashioned paper book to keep myself occupied.
Luckily Powell's has an impulse-buy shop in the airport.

I wonder if they're jamming my signal... ;)

Oooooh! Fancy!
by brian @ 10:20:41 - [perma-link]

So let's see... Nice decor, nice bathroom (the shower curtain
rocks...the bar bows out, so the shower is huge and the curtain doesn't
get sucked in). And polished steel sinks look way cooler than they are
practical.

Nice parking garage across the street that started making some horribly
loud noise at around 5am. It stopped a couple minutes after we called
downstairs, but I think that's just a coincidence. The guy at the desk
says that just happens every so often. Hopefully not again tonight.

We're going out with the realtor today to check out a few houses. I hope
this trip is better than the last one.

Hey, genius, get off the carousel!
by brian @ 14:22:53 - [perma-link]

First this guy gets "pulled over" at the gate because his checked bag
was leaking some "oily fluid", but they let him (and it) go. Now he's
sitting on the luggage carousel.

Not that I really care. I rode the carousel on tv once, a long time ago.
But that's a different story.

Here come the bags! Woohoo!

Hotel lucia
by brian @ 18:13:48 - [perma-link]

So we're in Portland, again. This time we're staying at the Hotel Lucia,
Portland's newest hotel. It's one of those"hip" hotels with the funky
lobbies, nice beds, and a "GET IT NOW" button on the phone.

We took a look at the apartment we're moving into (not the actual one,
but the model). It's pretty nice, even though it will be a little, ok a
lot, more cramped than our house. At least it's just temporary!

Bluehour
by brian @ 19:56:11 - [perma-link]

Dinner was good, even if Connie's pork shank beat me grouper into the
middle of next week.

This place (Bluehour) is cool. Kind of SF chi-chi (she-she?), but cool.
The weird sunken square light around the ceiling are cool.
